Domain name finder
Type a few words that describe your idea. We'll mix them into name ideas and check which .co.uk, .uk or .com domains nobody has registered yet.
Separate words with commas. Letters and numbers only.
How the domain finder works
It takes your keywords and builds variations from them: each word on its own, with common prefixes such as "get" or "my", with endings such as "hub" or "hq", and words joined together. It then asks the official registry for each ending (Nominet for .co.uk and .uk, Verisign for .com) whether each name is already registered. Any name the registry has no record of is shown as available.
Availability can change quickly, and some names are reserved or premium, so always confirm at a registrar before you buy.
Tips for choosing a domain name
- Keep it short. Short names are easier to remember, type and fit on a van or business card.
- Make it easy to say. If you have to spell it out on the phone, it's harder for people to find you.
- Avoid hyphens and numbers. People tend to forget them or type them wrong.
- Pick the right ending. .co.uk tells visitors you're UK-based, .uk is shorter, and .com suits international audiences.
- Check trade marks. Search the UK trade mark register before you commit, so you don't step on an existing brand.
Frequently asked questions
Does "available" mean I can definitely buy it?
Usually, but not always. The registry may have reserved a name, a registrar may charge a premium price, or someone may register it between your search and your purchase. Your registrar will confirm.
What's the difference between .co.uk and .uk?
Both are run by Nominet for the UK. .co.uk is the long-established commercial ending most people recognise. .uk is shorter and newer. Many businesses register both.
Why couldn't some names be checked?
Registries limit how fast they answer lookups. If a check times out, we show it as "couldn't be checked" rather than guess. Try again in a minute or with fewer ideas.
Do you store my searches?
No. Your keywords are turned into name ideas in your browser. Only the domain names are sent to our server, which asks the registries and passes back the answer. Nothing is kept.
