Privacy policy

Useful Tools HQ is built to collect as little as possible. Our calculators run in your browser, and analytics only run if you agree. This page explains the details.

Who runs this site

Useful Tools HQ (usefultoolshq.co.uk) is run by Matt Chapman, an individual based in the UK. For this policy, that makes me the "controller" of any personal data collected through the site. You can contact me about privacy at hello@usefultoolshq.co.uk.

The calculators

Everything you type into a calculator is processed on your own device. It is not saved, and it is not sent to me, Google or anyone else.

Analytics (only if you accept)

If you click Accept on the cookie banner, the site loads Google Analytics. It collects information such as:

• the pages you visit and how long you stay
• the website or search that sent you here
• your device type, browser and screen size
• your approximate location (town or country), worked out from your IP address

Google Analytics doesn't store your full IP address. I only see grouped statistics, not who you are. I use them to understand which tools are useful and what to improve.

Legal basis: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time using Cookie settings in the footer of any page. See the cookie policy for the cookies involved.

Kept for: up to 14 months, after which Google deletes it automatically.

Hosting and security

The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic request details to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. This is necessary to run the site (legitimate interests). I don't use this data to identify visitors.

If you email me

If you contact me, I'll use your email address and message only to reply. I'll delete them when they're no longer needed, normally within 12 months. Email is handled by Microsoft 365.

Who else handles data

The only other companies involved are Google (analytics, if you accept), Cloudflare (hosting) and Microsoft (email). They may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, they use legal safeguards approved under UK law, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contract clauses. I don't sell your data or share it with anyone else.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete personal data held about you, object to how it's used, or withdraw consent. Email me at hello@usefultoolshq.co.uk and I'll respond within one month. Because analytics data isn't linked to your name, I may not be able to find data about you specifically.

If you're unhappy with how your data is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. I'd appreciate the chance to sort it out first.

Children

This site is meant for adults managing their own money and isn't aimed at children.

Changes to this policy

If anything changes, for example if adverts are added, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
